Christians are eager to respond to the call to seek the Shalom of the city today. While some ministries such as feeding the poor and environmental care seem obvious, Christians also need to see the various dimensions of the city such as its policies and culture which also shape the city.

In seeking the peace and welfare of the cities they are in, Christians have a dual citizenship - both the earthly and the heavenly one. This posture enables Christians, as individuals and the church, as a corporate body, to be fully committed to the earthly city but at the same time seeking to build up the eternal Kingdom of God.

This booklet draws from a variety of sources to suggest ways that Christians can do good in these different aspects of city life. It is the Biblical concept of Shalom - freedom, unity, wholeness and healing - which forms the overarching vision in this quest to make cities liveable.
